I’ve tried a lot of things in my life. Some worked. Some didn’t. And some failed so spectacularly that even now I can’t think about them without shaking my head and laughing a little.
Failure is funny that way. It stings when you’re in it, but it teaches you something once you’re past it.
I used to think failure meant I missed God. Now I realize failure is often how God forms me.
I’ve tried projects that never got off the ground. I’ve tried ideas that sounded brilliant until I actually attempted them. I’ve tried to fix things I didn’t have the tools for. I’ve tried to help people who didn’t want help. I’ve tried to be strong in seasons where God was actually calling me to be still.
And every one of those attempts, even the embarrassing ones, shaped me.
Failure has a way of humbling you without humiliating you. It reminds you that you’re human. It reminds you that growth isn’t clean. It reminds you that God isn’t grading you, He’s guiding you.
Looking back, I can see that some of my failures were actually God’s protection. Some were God’s redirection. Some were God’s preparation. And some were simply me learning that I’m not as capable as I thought… but God is far more faithful than I realized.
The enemy loves to weaponize failure. God loves to recycle it.
The enemy says, “See? You can’t do anything right.” God says, “See? I’m still with you.”
The enemy says, “You should quit.” God says, “You’re learning.”
The enemy says, “You’re done.” God says, “You’re being shaped.”
So next week, I want to encourage you with this simple truth: Your failures are not final. They’re formative.
Every attempt that didn’t work out is still part of your story, and God is not ashamed of any chapter. He’s not embarrassed by your missteps. He’s not disappointed in your stumbles. He’s not surprised by your limitations.
He’s building something in you that success alone could never teach.
So here’s my challenge for you: Don’t hide your failures. Honor them. Learn from them. Let God use them.
Because sometimes the things you tried and failed at are the very things God uses to prepare you for the things you’ll succeed at later.
Grace to you this week, especially in the places that didn’t go the way you hoped.
