A Morning, a Memory, and a Message

Some mornings don’t rush in, they just ease their way into the day. Today was one of those. The house was quiet, the coffee was doing its slow percolating dance, and the sunlight was stretching itself across the floor like it had nowhere else to be. There’s a holiness in those early hours if you let yourself sit still long enough to notice it.

As I stood there, letting the warmth of the mug settle into my hands, a memory rose up from years ago. I was back in my wife’s kitchen, that sacred little sanctuary where faith and food were stirred together in the same pot. She didn’t measure ingredients; she measured love. And somehow, everything she made tasted like it had been prayed over.

She never preached from a pulpit, but she preached every day with her life. The way she listened without rushing. The way she cooked without complaining. The way she loved without conditions. Her kitchen was her ministry, and every meal was a message.

That memory settles on me like a soft hand on the shoulder. It reminded me that ministry isn’t always loud. It isn’t always structured. It isn’t always planned. Sometimes it’s as simple as showing up with kindness. Sometimes it’s choosing patience when frustration would be easier. Sometimes it’s offering a listening ear when you don’t have the perfect words.

Today’s message is simple: let your life preach.

Let your actions carry the Gospel into places your words may never reach. Let your memories remind you of the faith that shaped you. And let the quiet moments, the ones that sneak up on you between sips of coffee, become the gentle nudges that keep your heart aligned with God’s.

Some mornings give you a mission. This one gave me a memory. And both are worth paying attention to.
