The Joy of the Lord

Sunday mornings have a way of reminding us that God is still doing quiet work in the unseen places. Before the songs begin, before the sanctuary fills, before the first handshake or hug, there’s a moment where the heart settles and remembers why we gather at all.

This morning, as the sun eased its way over Bibb County, I felt the Lord nudge my spirit with a familiar truth: “Neh 8:10  Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Not your plans. Not your energy. Not your circumstances. His joy.

And that joy isn’t loud or flashy. It doesn’t demand attention. It simply rises, steady, faithful, and strong, like a river beneath the surface. It’s the kind of joy that holds you when life feels heavier than you expected. The kind that whispers hope when your own words fall short. The kind that reminds you that God’s presence is not just near… it’s carrying you.

We often think joy means smiling through everything, but the joy of the Lord is deeper than emotion. It’s the settled assurance that God is who He says He is. It’s the confidence that His promises don’t waver. It’s the quiet strength that shows up in the middle of the storm, not just after it passes.

Maybe you walked into this Sunday with questions. Maybe you’re tired. Maybe you’re grateful. Maybe you’re somewhere in between. Wherever you are, hear this: God’s joy is already reaching for you. You don’t have to earn it. You don’t have to pretend. You simply have to receive it.

Let His joy steady your steps today. Let it soften your heart. Let it lift your eyes.

Because the joy of the Lord isn’t just your strength, it’s your reminder that God has already gone ahead of you into the week you haven’t lived yet.

And that is reason enough to worship.
