When Success Starts Lying to You

Success is a funny thing. It doesn’t just show up, sometimes it talks.

And if you’re not careful, it will lie to you.

Yesterday I said we measure our successes by comparing them to our failures. Today I want to take that a step further, because sometimes the things we call “success” start whispering things that aren’t true.

Success says, “You’re doing great, keep going.” But God says, “You’re doing too much, slow down.”

Success says, “Look how far you’ve come.” But God says, “Look how tired you are.”

Success says, “Everyone is impressed.” But God says, “I’m not looking at your results, I’m looking at your heart.”

I’ve had moments where I felt successful, but the success wasn’t real. It was performance. It was pressure. It was me trying to prove something God never asked me to prove.

And the dangerous part? People will applaud you for the wrong kind of success.

They’ll cheer for your busyness. They’ll praise your productivity. They’ll admire your accomplishments. They’ll celebrate your momentum.

Meanwhile, your soul is quietly waving a white flag.

I’ve learned that false success is one of the enemy’s favorite traps. It looks good. It feels good. It impresses people. But it slowly pulls you away from the things that actually matter.

Real success doesn’t drain you, it strengthens you. Real success doesn’t inflate you, it grounds you. Real success doesn’t pull you from God, it draws you closer.

So here’s my Tuesday encouragement:

Pay attention to the success that feels wrong. Pay attention to the victories that cost too much. Pay attention to the achievements that leave you empty. Pay attention to the applause that doesn’t match your peace.

Because sometimes the most dangerous place to be is succeeding at something God never asked you to do.

And sometimes the greatest success is quietly stepping back, breathing deep, and saying, “Lord, redefine success for me.”
