Success is a funny thing. It doesn’t just talk, sometimes it interrupts.
And if you’re not careful, it will stop you from growing.
Tuesday we talked about how success can lie to you. Today I want to talk about something even more subtle: how success can stall you. Not failure, success.
Because failure pushes you to learn. Failure forces you to adjust. Failure makes you ask questions. Failure sends you back to God.
But success? Success can make you comfortable. Success can make you careless. Success can make you think you’ve arrived when you’ve only just begun.
I’ve had seasons where things were going well, really well, and instead of growing, I settled. I stopped stretching. I stopped listening. I stopped praying with the same urgency. I stopped paying attention to the small cracks forming under the surface.
Success can make you think you’re stronger than you are. Success can make you think you’re wiser than you are. Success can make you think you’re safer than you are.
And that’s when the enemy loves to slip in.
Not during your failures, during your victories.
Because when you’re succeeding, you’re less likely to guard your heart. Less likely to ask for help. Less likely to stay humble. Less likely to stay dependent on God.
I’ve learned that success without surrender is just pride with a spotlight.
Real success, the kind Heaven recognizes, doesn’t make you arrogant, it makes you grateful. It doesn’t make you independent, it makes you prayerful. It doesn’t make you comfortable, it makes you careful.
So here’s my Wednesday encouragement:
Don’t let success stop your growth. Don’t let applause replace obedience. Don’t let momentum replace maturity. Don’t let results replace relationship.
Because the greatest danger isn’t failing, it’s succeeding in the wrong things or succeeding in the right things without God at the center.
Ask Him today: “Lord, don’t just bless what I’m doing, shape who I’m becoming.”
That’s the kind of success that lasts.
